4.27.2008 // Spratt Finishes in the UWC!!!!!!! |
In the largest MMA promotion to hit the Nation’s capitol Pete Spratt capped off a night of great fights by stopping Jason Von Flue at 2:29 of the 1st round in the main event. Spratt seemed sharp and ready to go and promised to put on a great show and he did not disappoint. Spratt’s takedown defense looked great, he spun out of leg lock attempts by Von Flue and let his hands fly. He even spent some time in the fight as a southpaw which possibly confused Von Flue. “This was an opportunity to get a bad taste out of my mouth and I think I did that! Von Flue is a tough guy and I have nothing but respect for him. He was very classy in defeat!”
Thanks to my family, Sandra, baby Arrian and Dee for all their support at home and my family back home in Sherman, TX. I also want to thank my manager Sven Bean for all he’s done for the past 9 years. Thanks to my agent Josh Lopez and my sponsors Renegade Fight Gear, Extreme Couture, knowyourbet.com, Fight2Train.com, my jiu-jitsu coach Rodrigo Pinheiro @ rodrigopinheirobjj.com and my boxing coach “Jesse” James Leija and Champion Fit Gym!

3.10.2008 // MFC is a Great Promotion, NOT!!!!! |
My experience with MFC was horrendous and of utter disbelief. Upon arrival Mark Pavelich seemed to be a gentleman of respect and honor but that was far from the truth! Let me start from the beginning with my journey to the MFC….When I received my itinerary I couldn’t believe the path that they had their main event fighter traveling. I spent all day in and out of airports and on and off planes. I was appalled that they were so cheap that they could not get me and my cornerman a direct flight to Edmonton or put me and my cornerman on the same flight. I flew from San Antonio to Phoenix with a 2 hour layover. Then I was off to Denver for another 4 hour layover and then to Edmonton landing at 8:45pm. All in all, 7.5 hours of flight time but a 14 hour travel day. My corner man’s route was even worse. He went from San Antonio to Phoenix to Minnesota to Edmonton arriving at 11:30pm only to get held up at immigration for another 3 hours.
As soon as I arrive, I don’t get a break. I have to go to a local radio station to do an interview and hype up the fight which was cool but I really didn’t want to do it. Being the professional that I am, I did the interview anyway. On the way over, Mark was tooting his horn on what a great promoter he is etc, which may be true but I didn’t care. Finally my night is over and I can go try to get some rest.
Thursday afternoon, I get a call from my cornerman Rodrigo saying that he has to go back to the airport and deal with immigration some more. He said he would call me when he got back. Well the official weigh in was at 4pm and around 3:30 I hadn’t heard from Rodrigo yet so I called his room. Front desk says he checked out and I knew shit was going wrong then! I told the event guy that I think my cornerman may be having some issues and may be sent back to the U.S. and could he find out what was going on. All he did was call the front desk and tells me that he’ll be back but he wont be able to get his same room and that he would have to bunk with me. To myself I was thinking…. “What does the front desk have to do with immigration? Mark was quick to tell me about this company that he has working for him that can get anyone in the country etc but made no effort to keep Rodrigo in to corner me. His quote, “If they can get 50 cent in the country, they can get anyone in here!” Yeah right! Well, the next time I hear from Rodrigo is around 11pm saying that he just landed in San Antonio and that they sent him back! Great, déjà vu all over again, Pete Spratt vs. GSP in 2003! Now, I am scrambling to find me a team to corner me. Fortunately, Tom Vaughn (WEC Welterweight Champ Carlos Condit’s trainer) from Albuquerque steps up to help me out. He had I think 4 other fighters on the card as well and I appreciate the help that he and his team gave me. Now for the 1st time I had to wrap my own hands, apply my gloves and tape my own gloves. I had about 10 minutes of warm up time with Tom and gave it my best considering the circumstances! I did not realize that I would be in the ring with a guy that likes to break the rules. Had I known that, I would have been dirty myself. Was it just me or has anyone else noticed the gynecomastia tits on Ford? I really don’t know much about it but upon research I found that that is a direct side effect of Anabolic Steroid use! I am 37 years old and one thing I have never done is cheat at any level of my athletic career. Some people will do anything to win no matter what the cost but I hold myself and my values at a different level. Now I cant say that using HGH hasn’t crossed my mind since I’m getting older but I would never use performance enhancing drugs. You could randomly drug test me at any point and I guarantee that I would be clean every time!
Back to the point at hand, Sven Bean, my manager sent Mark an email stating that we would like an immediate rematch on neutral territory and that I would not fight him on his show. Well for some reason Mark sends a rematch contract anyway after we already said I wont fight for his show again! Not only that, but a contract he knew we would not agree too! Now the rematch contract stated I would rematch Ford in May at MFC 16! If I win, I was to have a rubber match with Ford before the end on 2008 at the MFC again for the same pay as 2 previous fights. Now, why in the world would I agree to go to this guy’s backyard for 3 fights in a row after being treated so eloquently in my first fight there? Makes a whole lot of sense for me doesn’t it? I am not one to complain, I just simply state the facts.
Pavelich is classless and has no character and I would never associate myself with him or his promotion ever again. I will be vindicated maybe once Ford gets off of parole but a rematch will happen one day hopefully before I retire!

Spratt gets Blue Belt!!!!!! |

On Monday, October 15th just after avenging a loss to T.J. Waldburger Pete Spratt received his blue belt under Rodrigo Pinheiro. Spratt has been training with Pinheiro and his team at Power Team Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in San Antonio, Tx for the past 6 months and has excelled. His athleticism and extensive fight background has allowed him to make the transition to gi BJJ relatively easy and he’s learning very quickly. Spratt back with a Vengeance!!!!!!! |
At the inaugural
event of Mark Cuban’s HDNET Fights, Pete Spratt avenged a loss to T. J.
Waldburger in devastating fashion. Here’s the play by play courtesy of
Sherdog.com Round 1.…Waldburger starts this fight off with strong punches and
goes for Spratt's head. Spratt holds onto Waldburger's hand and rocks him with
a right that puts him down. Spratt drops on him but Waldburger is OK and is let
back up. Spratt smelled blood and didn't let up knocking him down again.
Waldburger tried to kick at Spratt's legs but Spratt came down from on high
with a shot that knocked Waldburger unconscious. Spratt got 2 or 3 more vicious
shots in before the ref could stop the fight.
The official time is 1:29 of
the first. This was a rematch as Spratt lost to Walburger via triangle choke
just a month prior at a promotion in Austin, TX. Immediately following that
loss Spratt contacted commissioner Guy Mezger and asked for the rematch in the
event something happened with his scheduled opponent Sam Morgan. Sure enough
about a week later, Spratt got the call and it was on!
Spratt had a few
distractions prior to the fight with T.J. as he had to rush his pregnant
girlfriend to the hospital due to some bleeding the morning of weigh in’s. He
and his girlfriend Sandra Jones were at Baylor Medical Center from about
2:00a.m. till 5:30a.m. Friday morning making sure there were no complications
with the baby. Already named, lil Aaron Jr. was fine and was having a good old
time inside his momma! After getting back to the hotel, Spratt slept till about
9:00a.m. and still had 4 lbs. left to make weight. He weighed in at 168 lbs and
was apparently ready to go! Spratt had this to say about his opponent, “T.J. is
young and has a bright future ahead of him. He will be a super star in MMA. I
see big things from him and see him improving in leaps and bounds from this
experience! Much respect to him and his Grappler’s Lair camp!”

01.28.2007 UFN 8-Summary -- By Pete Spratt |
All in all not a bad card at all. There were some surprises and disappointments for me personally but the UFC keeps putting on great shows and TUF contestants keep doing their thing. I went 6-2 on my picks for the evening. I keep doing this well, I am gonna have to make a career of this stuff.
1st fight of the evening pitted Spencer “King” Fisher vs. Hermes Franca.
I was a bit on the fence about who to pick in this match up. The styles were intriguing to me. I guess you could say great technical striker with good ground skills vs. a great grappler with the ability to hit you with some winging punches. With that being said I picked Fisher over Franca. I chose Fisher because of his aggressive style, good ground and great striking. Goes to show that the more technical striker doesn’t win. I think Fisher relax for one second and got caught with a big right hand and could not recover from Franca’s onslaught. I thought Franca handled the fight well and remained very composed. He capitalized on his opening and closed the show with a TKO victory.
Fight #2 was very disappointing which was Heath Herring vs. Jake O’Brien.
This was a highly anticipated match up for those of us who know Heath from his days in Pride. I was very excited to see that the UFC had signed him and was eagerly looking forward to him putting on a great show. Well O’Brian had other intentions. He decided that he was not going to be the stepping stone to Herring and completely controlled this fight with great takedowns and smooth transitions on the mat. He pretty much kept Herring into his game and he paced the fight. Herring had an opportunity with a nice jab fake and left hook dropping O’Brien but O’Brien held on and won a unanimous decision.
Fight #3 Ed Herman vs. Chris Price
Very impressive transitioning from Herman. He took Price’s back and then transitioned to an armbar forcing Price to tapout at 2:58 of the 1st round.
Fight #4 The main event…. Rashad Evans vs. Sean Salmon
All I am gonna say about this one is WOW! After a pretty uneventful 1st round, Rashad came out and landed a CroCop’esk round kick to Salmon’s neck that left him unconscious before he even hit the mat. I was anticipating this earlier during the fight but man what a way to finish.

01.12.2007 “The Natural” is Back!!!!! -- By Pete Spratt
|
In my opinion, I think it’s great that Randy is back. He’s not only back but challenging Tim Sylvia for the UFC Heavyweight title. Now how is that for a tune up fight after a year layoff? I’ve seen some reports that people don’t think Randy should return and that he has nothing to prove etc… I disagree. I think Randy has a lot to prove, not to the fans but to himself. He retired after a second loss to Chuck Liddell and I think at the time he whole heartedly believed that his time was finished in the sport. I think he was hurt, embarrassed and emotionally devastated and made a harsh instinctive decision. My question is, How do you retire with a devastating loss like that? Remembering the last thing that happened in your fight career was being knocked out? Well, he has a chance to erase that memory. I applaud Randy coming back and I wish him the best. I know from personal experience that he is still in great shape from working with him on TUF 4. I have no doubts that Randy has every intention on putting on a great show not only for himself but the fans as well.
In closing, nobody gave the aging George Foreman a chance against the young heavyweight champion at the time Michael Moorer and he won by a devastating KO to be the oldest heavyweight champ in history. If he loses, he will be criticized for coming back and if he wins, he will once again be the ever so youthful Captain America! I believe Randy has unfinished business and he has reopened his book to finish the final chapter.

Pete Spratt looks back on 2006 |
UFC Welterweight fighter Pete Spratt had the following comments about his fights and opponents of 2006:
2006 was a time for ups and downs for myself. I was contemplating retirement at the start of the year. Everything made a complete turnaround and by the end of the year I was full steam ahead. Technically, I had 5 fights in 2006 going with only 3 counting toward my record. With official fights I went 2-1 for the year and 2-3 unofficially.
3-3-06 Dallas Dragons vs. Denver Destroyers at WCL, Las Vegas (Lost 71-47) I had an interesting time with the WCL. It's a very neat concept but I was just not being compensated enough for the name that I have in the fight game. I participated in 2 of theses events and really liked the team concept and enjoyed being one of the pioneers in this new sport. I fought Kevin Engle in my bout. Tough Kid and very hard puncher. He out pointed me 15-7 in the 1st round of competition.
4-25-06 vs. Serkan Yilmaz at A1 World Combat Cup, Istanbul, Turkey (Loss Unanimous Dec.) Sometimes you just dont have a chance to win and all the cards are stacked against you. This fight was Team Turkey vs. Team USA. During my fight the ref was against me deducting 2 points from me for grabbing and scoring a knockdown on a slip. I was already 3 points behind in a three round fight and had to score a KO to win. Serkan is a decent fighter but it's hard to win when your fighting the referee too. I would love to fight him again in the future.
5-6-06 vs Matt Brown at IFF, Ft. Worth Texas (Won Unanimous Decision)This kid was very game and brought it like a champ. He was like screw Pete Spratt. It was good to finally fight a MMA bout in Texas after all these years. It had been probably 6 years since my home state had seen me fight live. It was a great homecoming and a great fight. It went back and forth all night until the final round when I dropped Brown with a left kick to the body. It was also great to be around my boys Duane Ludwig and Christian Allen. They really saved the day for me.
6-2-06 vs Chris Lytle at TUF 4. (Loss by guillotine at 2:06 of round 1)This was a very tough loss for me as I felt I let my team down. I was really wanting to show some things and revenge a loss to Lytle earlier in my career. It didn't happen as I wanted and I was crushed. All I wanted to do was finish the show and go home.
6-16-06 vs Matt Serra at TUF 4 (Loss by Tapout at 3:29 of the 1st round-Strikes)Man I really wanted to redeem myself against Serra. I think I put on a decent showing as I was able to get off a little bit in the fight. I defended pretty well and even cut Matt with the first shot I landed. He go me to the ground and took my back after stalling for a while and punched me out. Tough loss but I wasn't disappointed. I fought the 2 guys that ended up in the finals.
11-11-06 vs. Jeremy Jackson at TUF 4 Finale (Won by Tapout due to injury at 1:11 of second round)I was excited about this fight. I did everything right in training and was well prepared. I trained in Boston at Sityodtong Muay Thai with Mark Dellagrotti, Kenny Florian and Jorge Rivera. It was a great camp and the team welcomed me. I used all my new tricks against Jeremy and everything was working. There was no way for him to beat me that night and my year came to and end with a great finish.
In closing, I want thank my manager Sven Bean, my mentor Maurice Smith, my Grandma family and friends and my wonderful girlfriend Sandra Jones. I would not have been able to carry on if it had not been for you. I also want to thank my sponsors TapouT Clothing, EAS, Protect Mouthguards and N2Dezigns. Extra Special thanks to the cast and the crew of The Ultimate Fighter 4 for revitalizing and rejuvenating my career!
2006 was a year of ups and downs for me but the finish was extraordinary. My experiences from the show has compelled me to be the fighter that I was in the past and has jump started my career again. I went from fading off of the fight scene to back into the limelight. Thank you to all the people that love to criticize and talk trash about me because in the end I will always have the last laugh. When I lose they cant keep their mouth shut and when I win, they cant say anything. Funny how that works???
In 2007, I look to continue my winning ways in the UFC and to keep improving as an overall MMA fighter. Some people I would like to work with in 2007 are Randy Couture more extensively, Jeremy Horn, Bas Rutten and Eddie Bravo. Look for big things from Pete Spratt as a fighter, entertainer and actor.

Ring of Fire and Sven Bean lands partnership with Affliction Clothing!!! |
Anyone who has watched the Ultimate Fighter TV show has seen UFC president Dana White sporting Affliction gear. If you run in to UFC champion Chuck Liddell outside of the cage, chances are he'll be sporting an AFFLICTION t-shirt. Top entertainment stars such as Jamie Foxx, Ozzy Osborne, Hulk Hogan, The ROCK, Nikki Sixx and Chris Angel have been long time fans of the clothing line. AFFLICTION is also quickly becoming the "look" of the top MMA athletes as well. At ROF 27, an Affliction clothing representative was our special guest for the event and really liked what he saw. He quickly agreed to sponsor some of the promotion's top athletes. Some other MMA fighter’s include Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Josh Barnett, Randy Couture, Sean Sherk and newly sponsored TUF 4 star Pete “Secret Weapon” Spratt.
"ROF is top notch. What a great show! Sven really knows how to match fighters to make an exciting, nonstop event" said the Affliction representative.
"This stuff is really cool gear. The entire line is just kick ass. Affliction truly supports the sport. Affliction is exactly the type of the company that will help MMA crossover to the mainstream. It is a pleasure to work with a company who is so down for the sport and it's athletes. I have always felt my top guys belong right up there with the big names of the sport. MMA fighters are quickly becoming hugely popular, just like rock stars. Well now they can dress like rock stars too." said ROF promoter Sven BOOGIE Bean.

Spratt Victorious in TUF 4
Season Finale!!!!!! |
San Antonio - On November 11th in Las Vegas, Spratt made his return to the Octagon with a victory over TUF 4 cast mate Jeremy Jackson at the Hardrock Hotel and Casinos. Jackson tapped out at 1:11 of the second round due to a neck injury. Spratt seemed to be in control during the first round landing a leg kick that left a huge bruise on Jackson’s leg. Jackson known as a great striker also pulled guard during the fight which was a surprise as Spratt landed several heavy punches from the guard even cutting Jackson early. In the second round after unsuccessful attempts at landing a takedown Jackson tapped out. It was a weird ending to a fight that was shaping up to be an exciting match up.
Spratt says, “ I had a great training camp in Boston with Sityodtong Muay Thai . I trained Thai style. All I did was eat, sleep and train; even lived in the gym. Mark Dellagrotte, Kenny Florian, Jorge Rivera, Misho Ceko, Mat Santos and all the guys at Sityodtong put me through a great camp. They pushed me above and beyond my limits everday! I am very proud to be associated with Team Sityodtong Boston! I would like to thank my girlfriend Sandra Jones and my family for putting up with me through this trying period, manager Sven Bean, my sponsors TapouT(www.inyaface.com), N2dezigns.com, Protect Mouth guards (www.protechmouthguards.com) Suicide Jack Chopper’s for stepping up to the plate late and EAS. I also want to thank Mark Dellagrotte for welcoming me with open arms, Ken Flo, Jorge Rivera and Misho Ceko, without them I would not have been prepared and thanks to the Man Above for watching over me and everyone!” Spratt is eager to return to the Octagon and further the second coming of his career and he looked impressive and seemed to be in great shape. Look for Spratt to return and to be in the mix for a title shot like he was back in 2003.
